You Can Now Call Me Names

As a blogger on training wheels, I had no idea this was case, but the first two or three dozen posts had a “comment” tag attached, except that comments were not allowed. As I told the irate callers, this was not an Orwellian scheme. Anyway, the censor has been lifted. You can now join the discussion, as one or two people (and a canine) have done on the post below this one. Note that your first comment must be approved. After that you’re home free.

Ah, to be free from my shackles. You have been gracious enough to tell us the many ways in which we may purchase your tome. But this is what I am eagerest to know: which of those ways puts the most money in your pocket?

That’s a considerate question, cycledork. By far the largest per-book profit is to sell copies out of the trunk of my ‘97 Corolla. But instead I encourage sales through one of the listed independent bookstores. I support independent bookstores generally and these particular independent bookstores are supporting me (selling at 20 percent off) specifically. Plus, store sales — hopefully — beget more store sales. So I am not being selfless. Besides, my Corolla only goes so far. Of course, I’ll sell you a copy in a dark alley if that’s what it takes.

How does a writer afford a luxury automobile like a 97 Corolla? I thought writers drove these:

You must moonlight as a high paid bookseller.

Jerry: You should check out cycledork’s blog, and soon. It’s extremely well written and it’s about your third favorite subject, (after books and beer), bikes.

C-dork: If you get serious about buying a copy, Jerry can make it happen at a discount with cheap shipping charges.

I’ll stop being all e-Harmony now.

Following up on our good friend cycledork’s question, what is the easiest way to obtain a *signed* copy of your book? I should add that I’d prefer not to meet you at a roadside Waffle House in Hattiesburg, Miss., in order to procure your autograph.

Disregard my last comment. Apparently, you have a list of upcoming appearances along the right side of this very Web site … You’ve thought of everything! What next, Tom Swift? Time travel? A cure for cancer?

I am disregarding your disregard to say (to anyone else who may care) that signed copies can be shipped just about anywhere — even if you live in Umpire, Arkansas or Porkey, Pennsylvania — for nominal shipping charges.
