Baseball Book Bonaza Tomorrow

The past fourteen hours have been special ones. Last night — a quintessential early Minnesota spring night (sleety, cold, miserable) — a heartening number of kind souls showed up at Monkey See-Monkey Read to listen to me read from and talk about “Chief Bender’s Burden.” And we sold more books than there were people. Wow.

A few hours ago I was the guest on the ArtZany! radio show hosted by Paula Granquist. Ms. Granquist is also a writing instructor and an enthusiastic supporter of all things literary. What a treat to be able to talk about the process of writing this book. One listener called the station immediately after the show to say he wanted to read Charles Bender’s story. Doesn’t get much cooler than that.

I am so grateful to Jerry Bilek, owner of The Monkey, and Ms. Granquist for the opportunities. Event coverage will be added in the coming days — when I find some keyboard time.

The rare opportunities resume tomorrow (Saturday) night at Magers & Quinn Booksellers, a terrific independent store in Minneapolis. I’ll appear at 6 p.m., along with authors Dan Levitt (Ed Barrow) and Peter Schilling Jr. (The End of Baseball) during an event dubbed a Baseball Book Bonanza. Ballpark food will be served. Though ballpark prices will not be charged. Should be a blast.
