Word On The Wire

The Wire rules. I’m about a half-decade behind the curve with that observation but, man, it’s quality talking-picture entertainment. The story is nuanced, concise, compelling. The characters are rich and real. And likable. Even the drug dealers. Maybe especially the drug dealers.

As I watch — we’re waiting for the final disc of Season 2 to arrive (Netflix, of course, is making us sweat a few extra days) — I frequently ask the quicker person in my marriage to explain what just happened, and what it means that that just happened. But the plot points I follow are absorbing. And what terrific dialogue. Wow.

I feel the need to add that I’m not much of a TV watcher. My cable package is so basic I don’t even have Headline News. So for all I know maybe other shows are this good. I just haven’t enjoyed a TV drama this much since the Bartlett administration.
