Unless he had some advertising printed on the cash, I fail to see how this promoted his book.
And, if he’s got that much cash to throw away, does he really need the book to be financially successful?
I guess the book’s central message would be that business success results from outlandish self-promotional behavior.

I’d say he purchased himself some pretty good name recognition. He got pub on CNN and in the New York Times. Even a schmuck like me mentioned his name on his blog.
As far as motivation, perhaps he wrote the book for art’s sake. Hardee-har-har.
