Mall Rat
I will about double my yearly allotment of mall hours on Saturday when I spend most of the day in one large enough to hold seven Yankee Stadiums. But I won’t buy a new blue shirt and I won’t ride a single roller coaster (beyond the mental up-down that comes when I appear at a store as something other than a customer).
At noon I will sign copies at the MoA Barnes & Noble and I will keep signing them until interest wanes or they ask me to see if I can’t find the exit.
That same morning, and in the same location, I will participate in a discussion with a book club that is reading Chief Bender’s Burden. This is an honor for reasons you would expect. It’s also an honor for reasons you might not. The club consists of members of the local chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research. While writing the book I profited, directly and indirectly, from members of the chapter specifically and SABR generally. This will be a great chance to talk to people I respect. Hopefully, they will take it easy on me.
If you’re out that way at any point on Father’s Day eve it would be great to see you, too.
