My List Is Much Longer

They can tell me plastic is better than paper. But that doesn’t mean I must believe them. Next they’ll say that other noteworthy efforts to save the planet are in fact accelerating its demise. That sunscreen, not the sun, causes skin cancer. That People stimulates the noggin as much as A People’s History. Or that a daily slice of fried pig lowers cholesterol. I could, come to think of it, accommodate on that last one. But I can’t accept that I should bring home the bacon in a bag that may ultimately wind up in the same place.

    1. Plastic
    Pro: It can be recycled
Con: These bags are made from iol, which is precious. If not recylced, these bags clog landfills, the Pacific gyre, farm fields, etc.

    2. Paper
Pro: It can be recycled. Also, usually biodegradeable.
    Con: Made of trees.

    3. Re-usable fabric or fiber bags
Pro: Can be (yes) re-used almost indefinately.
    Con: Hmmm.

    4. Wooden barrels
    Pro: Durable! Cute!
Con: Too heavy for most people

I believe the clear winner is #3, although the barrels are rather nostalgic.
